Kydella and the quiz
Who is behind Kydella?
Kydella was started by Dr. Tina, a physician triple board-certified in internal medicine, obesity medicine and clinical informatics, and her husband and partner, Terron Hyde, who looks after the technology, customer support and shipping. After years of treating patients caught in the cycle of recurrent UTIs, BV and yeast infections, Dr. Tina wanted to help more people navigate it. Read our story.
Do you save my quiz answers?
No. The quiz runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us or stored, and they disappear when you close or reload the page.
How does the quiz choose a suggestion?
It starts with a safety check. If a warning sign applies to you, it tells you how soon to get care and never suggests a product. If it’s your first time or you’re not sure what you have, it suggests getting a diagnosis first. If a clinician has diagnosed the same problem before, you’ll see plain-language information and, where it fits, a Kydella product to discuss with your clinician.
The quiz uses the same fixed rules for everyone, and it isn’t a diagnosis. Read more about how quiz results work.
Your health
Do I need to see a doctor first?
Often, yes. See a clinician before trying anything at home if it’s the first time you’ve had symptoms of a UTI, BV or a yeast infection, if you’re not sure what’s causing your symptoms, or if you have any of the warning signs. Several infections, including some STIs, can cause similar symptoms, and a test is often needed to tell them apart.
Infections that keep coming back deserve a check-up too. That includes 2 UTIs in 6 months or 3 in a year, yeast symptoms that return within 2 months of treatment, 3 or more yeast infections in a year, and BV that keeps returning. You don’t need a prescription to buy our products, but please talk with your clinician before you start any of them.
When should I see a doctor instead?
If any of these apply, get care instead of using an at-home product. The most urgent come first.
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room now if you have any of these. Don’t drive yourself.
- confusion, feeling very drowsy, or trouble speaking
- trouble breathing, a racing heart, or feeling extremely unwell
See a clinician today, at your doctor’s office or an urgent care clinic, if you have:
- a fever, chills or shaking
- pain in your lower back or side, or nausea or vomiting (these can be signs of a kidney infection)
- blood in your pee (it may look pink, red or brown)
- symptoms that got worse, or didn’t get better within 2 days of starting treatment (check back with the clinician who treated you)
Check with a clinician soon, before using an at-home product, if:
- you’re pregnant, might be pregnant, or you’re breastfeeding
- you might have been exposed to an STI, or a partner has an STI or its symptoms
- you have an unusual sore, blister or bump in your genital area, or bleeding between periods or after sex
- you have diabetes, kidney disease or a weakened immune system
- you’re under 18
If one of these applies and you also have UTI symptoms, try to be seen today.
Sources: NHS (UTIs, thrush), NIDDK (NIH) and CDC (sepsis, STI warning signs).
Can I use Kydella products if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Ask your clinician or midwife first if you’re pregnant, might be pregnant or are breastfeeding. Don’t use Refresh if you’re pregnant or might be. Poison Control advises pregnant women to avoid boric acid suppositories. For yeast infections in pregnancy, CDC recommends only certain antifungal treatments, used in the vagina for 7 days.
If you’re pregnant and have symptoms of a UTI, BV or a yeast infection, see a clinician rather than treating it yourself.
Are your products FDA-approved?
No. Restore and Reinforce are dietary supplements, and FDA doesn’t approve dietary supplements before they’re sold. The company that makes or sells a supplement is responsible for making sure it’s safe and correctly labeled. Refresh, our boric acid vaginal suppository, isn’t FDA-approved either.
